Every Friday, at The Soundx we will pick some new releases, based on quality or importance, which ones you should listen to throughout the week. This week we have releases from Wolf Alice, Japanese Breakfast, Famous, Loraine James, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER.
Wolf Alice – Blue Weekend
Blue Weekend is English alternative-rock band Wolf Alice’s third full-length record. It was produced by Markus Dravs, who formerly worked with Arcade Fire, Björk, and Florence + The Machine. The album features the singles “The Last Man on Earth”, “Smile,” and “No Hard Feelings” and is released through Dirty Hit.
Japanese Breakfast – Jubilee
Michelle Zauner defined her third record under the stage name Japanese Breakfast, Jubilee, as a huge change in her career direction. “After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow-up to be about joy,” she told. The record, which arrives four years after her last album, 2017’s Soft Sounds from Another Planet, is released through Dead Oceans.
Loraine James – Reflection
Loraine James’s second album, Reflection, was recorded during the 2020 summer and shows the English singer and songwriter in a “turbulent expression of inner-space.” The record also features guest appearance from Baths, Iceboy Violet, Le3 bLACK, Nova, and more. Reflection arrives through Hyperdub.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER – The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE
The Chaos Chapter: Freeze is the second album from the Korean boy band Tomorrow X Together and the second from their Chapters series. According to their website, the album “begins where dreams have been swept away by the towering presence of the real world.” The Chaos Chapter: Freeze is released through Big Hit Music.
Rostam – Changephobia
Vampire Weekend former member Rostam Batmanglij’s second album, Changephobia, arrives through Matsor Projects and Secretly Distribution. It’s his first album since 2017’s Half-Light and since his work with Clairo, Carly Rae Jepsen, Frank Ocean, Solange, and HAIM. The record features the single “4Runner.”
