On April 6, Charli XCX announced through its social networks that it was preparing a new album for quarantine. She stated: “I’m going to use this isolation time to make a brand new album from scratch.” And “I’m only going to be able to use the tools I have at my fingertips to create all music, all artwork, all videos… everything — in that sense, it’ll be very DIY”. The next day, she announced the album’s lead single, “Forever”. Now, she released the second single from her newest album, “Claws”.
“Claws” is more different than your past single. While “Forever” was more electronic and adult, this new track is softer, not so much electronic as its predecessor and even a little more childish. The distorted beats here are softer and disguised by Charli’s voice, which also doesn’t sound so robotized, but rather softer and more naïve. The lyrics are actually less complex, being more direct and simpler, but still something a little bit cute. The worst ends up being the chorus of the track in which Charli repeated several times “I like, I like, I like, I like, I like everything about you” which ended up sounding a little out of curve or even a little forced, mainly in the transition of lines. However, the track remains very pleasant and cool to hear.
